Yahoo! was founded as a portal for links and other services on the Internet. Born out of Stanford University by David Filo and Jerry Yang, Yahoo! soon became a large resource for users worldwide to access Internet resources

Crawler

Commonly known as Yahoo! Slurp, this robot crawls the web and populates the Yahoo! main index.
Whilst Yahoo´s Slurp robot populates their main index, the algorithms that determine rankings are not as complex as some of the others.

Submissions

Yahoo! allow you to submit your web site to their index for crawling.
You can also provide Yahoo! with a text (txt) file of url´s from your site, similar to Google´s xml sitemap service, but in text format.

Advertising

With the purchase of Overture by Yahoo! in late 2003, Yahoo now has a very strong advertising concept

Email

Yahoo! provide Yahoo! Mail. This is a free email service to which you subscribe
Subscription is free, all you need to do is sign up on the Yahoo! Mail web page.

Maps

Yahoo! provide Yahoo! Maps. This service lets you find geographical areas or businesses in a specific area

News

Yahoo! provide a news service that displays up to date relevant articles covering the worlds press.
The majority of Yahoo!´s News seems to come from the associated press, or Reuters
