Link Popularity
How link popularity works
Link popularity works by the search engines counting the number of other web sites that link to your web site.
For example: -
Your website is www.yourwebsite.com.
There are 20 other web sites that have links to you: -
www.partnerone.com
www.partnertwo.com
and so on....
So if all of the above web sites link to your web site and there are 20 of them, then you have a link popularity of 20.

The differences
Because the major search engines use different technology, they all provide different results for link popularity.
Google™ has one of the most complex link popularity calculations. They do not publish what, how and when they calculate link popularity, but certain web sites that link to your web site will not be counted.
The reason for this is that link popularity is supposed to be natural, not farmed. This means that people should be linking to your web site because you are a great resource, not because you have paid them to link to you.
This is also the case with advertising and directories. Understandably you will not gain link popularity by submitting your web site to thousands of directories, in actual fact this can do more harm than good.
So, how do you improve your link popularity?
The simple way is to become that great web resource. This is done by providing the Internet with great information.
With the implementation of some good technology, you can get these links increasing naturally and therefore increase your link popularity.
Another upside to link popularity, is that the more links you have out there, the more people will be referred to your web site.
