Getting listed in the major search engines

Before you start getting listed in the major search engines, check to make sure you are not already listed.

This is highly important, as you do not want to waste the search engines time by resubmitting your web site when it is already listed.

If you don´t have all of your pages indexed by the search engines, then this may be for reasons other than submissions.

To check whether you are listed in the major search engines or not, use the tools below.

Check your listings

Use the tool below to see if you are already listed in the major search engines.

Alternatively: Go to each major search engine and put your web site address into the search field and prefix it with site: e.g. site:www.seocrusade.com

Getting listed

Once you have confirmed that you are not listed, then you can either start a submission program, or get linked to by another web site already in the relevant search engine index.

If you take the latter route and get a web site already in a search engine index to link to you, there is no guarantee that the search engine will index you.

To make sure your web site is included you can take guaranteed listings from some of the search engines, whilst others require you to pass their rules on being included.

As well as submitting your web site to the major search engines, it may be necessary to provide the search engines with a sitemap. Please refer to sitemaps for more information.
